Peaceful Giants

This redwood tree - or Sequoia - is one of several which grow near to me. They are truly giant trees. Coming from California or Oregon in the USA, or from China, redwood trees can live for thousands of years. Some species are amongst the tallest trees in the world. From this picture you can probably see that they get their name from the redness of their wonderfully textured bark. As I stood in the silence of the woodland I could do nothing but be in awe as looked up and watched them towering into the sky. A special few minutes of peace in a busy day. I want to go to this place when I have more time to stand and be silent.
