Blake Dean, Hardcastle Crags

At the top of Hardcastle Crags valley you come into Blake Dean.
Way back in 1901 there was a trestle bridge spanning the river.  The bridge was built of pitch pine and was 105 ft high and 700ft long. Its purpose was to carry a single track railway that transported men and materials who were building three new reservoirs on the moor.
It was demolished in 1912.
You can see the foundation piers of the Trestle Bridge in the centre foreground of my blip and the track the railway took on the top right hand side.
