Good Morning Vietnam!
An early start and a full day exploring the area around Da Nang in Vietnam. The ship docked at Chan Mai which is where today's adventure began, not a lot happens here except the export of a lot of a sand. Travelling on Highway 1 we drove alongside miles and miles of paddy fields where women were tending the crop in the age old tradition before arriving at the UNESCO site of the Cham Civilisation Temples. The buildings made of brick were hundreds of years old and now preserved although a number of sites were bombed in the Vietnam war.
From here we made our way to My Son ( yes, that's the way to spell it!)and on to the Marble Mountains and Da Nang where we visited their main museum and the wonderful Dragon Bridge. Da Nang is the largest city in the region with 1m inhabitants, most of whom drive motor bikes or mopeds with a surprising number of passengers!
Today the temperature hit new heights and reached around 35 c or 100f, it seemed a lot hotter! But it's not humid and I'm a past master at finding the shady spots! I also bought a sun hat and at 1 $ I didn't even haggle!
This is a beautiful, lush country where life seems unhurried. What awaits us in Ho Chi Minh City is a surprise waiting to happen!
This morning we were lucky enough to watch the sun rise over the South China Sea and have just seen it set behind a mountain range close by. What a wonderful holiday this is turning out to be!
