Derwent reservoir

A lovely day of sunshine and (hail) showers with a biting cold wind. The temperature gauge suggested 5oC but it felt sub zero.

We had a destination in mind but decided to meander the various lanes as the whim took us. I'm convinced the Sat-nav sounded irritated as the route was recalculated for the umpteenth time.

Nevertheless we came across some delightful villages, some pubs we would want to visit, and some wonderful views over the peaks. Lambing is well underway so the fields contained a number of "awww" moments.

A fascinating visit to Tidewell and the "Cathedral in the Peak" and a taste of some local produce from the village bakery.

By lunchtime we had travelled just 40 miles and we decided to head towards the Snake Pass. We stopped short at Derwent Reservoir, famed for where the Dam Busters carried out Barnes Wallace's theories with their trial runs.

Apart from the car park being covered with sitting ducks - very nearly made the blip - there was a continuous roar of water as the surplus water after the rain and snow poured off the hills and over the dam. It was an impressive sight and sound and I hope you get a feel of the scale from this.
