Hithertoforth, herewitheth, henceforth
Sale documents arrived for our parent's house - duly signed in Australia by my big sister and couriered half way round the world to us in a few days.
Its a fascinating document. History in the making (if you can understand the lingo!). A full list of landowners from Baron Blythswood of Blythswood in 1922, via James Vipond and the Broomlea Development company (in the 1960s when the house was built), all the way up to my mum's executors a few year's ago.
It's a small village, everyone knows everyone's business, and family names are a common thread through generations. One of the Vipond's lived in the road behind us (Grandad Vipond as my mum called him as he was an elderly man) - I wonder if he was the original developer of number 132?
Grandad Vipond's grandsons would play with our friends and us. We all grew up together, playing in the lanes and streets. The youngest Vipond (a certain 'Douglas') became the drummer in Deacon Blue, and now presents on BBC 1 (although he's called Dougie now).
I played in the same regional Concert Band as he did - we did the Theme tune for the Rockford Files (now you're all singing it in your head).
I'm going over to the house tomorrow for a last look round and a chat with the neighbours.
There may be tears.
