The view from the bridge

I went back to the West End this evening in order to find an excuse to talk about
"A view from the bridge" which I saw last night at Wyndham's Theatre.

It's the third production I have seen. The first at the Bristol Old Vic in the eighties,
the second featuring the lovely Alan Coduner
at the Duke of York in 2009. This is by far the best.

Mark Strong's performance as Eddy Carbone is so solid and authentic that you are immediately drawn into the fishtank life (for that's what it is) of Sicilian immigrants living around the Brooklyn docks. Arthur Miller's play explores the relationship between Carbone, his neice and their new house guests in a way I can best describe as a Greek tragedy.
