Classic Carnival

Following yesterday's Mardi Gras for beginners, here's a taste of the main event. What a lot of colourful buttocks, ostrich feathers and loud samba music! 

Funchal's carnival parade didn't kick off till around 9.00pm and was still going at nearly midnight when we walked back to our hotel and found an even better view of the event on the TV in our room. 

Great to have experienced the good-natured, happy atmosphere, even if the parade was a rather slow-moving affair. No drunkenness. No bad behaviour. No-one throwing up in the gutter. We could learn a lot from the Madeiran Portuguese.
