The Bruce

Had a wonderful early walk over the Gowan Hill which is one of my favourite places in Stirling. My usual walk takes me to the Castle esplanade where this statue of King Robert the Bruce guards the entrance to the Castle. The sculptor was Andrew Currie, the statue dating from 1876. It got a spruce up last year for the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn. Or at least I assume that's why. Behind the Bruce you can see the Great Hall of the Castle, a wonderfully restored medieval banqueting hall and the largest of its kind in Scotland
