The Undercroft

For 38 years this much-blipped space (though not by me, I'm surprised to find) under the South Bank's concrete walkways has belonged to skateboarders, BMX-bikers and graffitists. In June 2013 I objected to the proposed £120m redevelopment that would have converted it into shops, as did 27,000 others, and five months ago it was reprieved. It was good to hear the echoey thwack of skateboards as I walked past this evening.
