Not Ancient - Built in 1817

This is the oldest building standing within 10 miles of my house. It was called Hickory Hall and was built by planter Joseph Green as a 7 room house with two large chimneys (still visible on each end) in 1817.  The house had renovations in 2007, so it has lost some of its character.  Legend has it that when Fort Randall at Little River Neck fell in 1863 during the Civil War, the Union soldiers used Hickory Hall as a hospital and command center.  It is not occupied or used at this time.  This view was not the original front as the house faced the opposite direction toward the Calabash River.
