If you remember these televisions, you will also recall trembling black and white images of Stratford Johns and James Ellis in Z Cars and William Hartnell as Dr Who.  We were in the modern history gallery of the Ulster Museum tonight, undertaking focus groups, and had an opportunity to browse the exhibits without competing adults and frenzied children obscuring the view.  We did not have a TV when I was a lad but, as we lived in the gardener's cottage attached to the "big house", we got lots of opportunity to gaze through the windows of the affluent folk where the Lone Ranger and Ivanhoe rode in staccato fury across the screen. I have a real soft spot for things 50s and 60s, but I do prefer my modern day plasma TV!
