Grape soda
This is Texas mountain laurel (Sophora secundiflora), also known as mescal bean.
No, mezcal (an alcohol distilled from agave) is not made from this bean- I read somewhere that just about every part of this tree is poisonous.
When in full bloom, the purple flowers are "reminiscent of wisteria"and the aroma is very similar to the sweet smell of the grape flavoring found in drinks. Think grape soda.
This particular tree is outside of my office.
Yesterday was actually my 5 year anniversary at the office, the office that is closing in a few months ( we will all work from home offices).
I guess I need to enjoy this tree in this season...
