Mono Monday: Ancient Buildings
This is Baddesley Clinton in Warwickshire. It's said that the house goes back to the C13th, though it was partially rebuilt and extended in both the C17th and C18th. It was owned for over 500 years by the Ferrers family, who during the time of religious persecution were prominent recusant Catholics; the house contains several priest holes in which Catholic priests could be (and were) hidden to keep them from arrest, torture and execution.
Now owned by the National Trust, it's a rather lovely place - quite small and intimate, and rather charmingly shabby. The guides clearly love the house and were keen to share information about its history. There's some more information here and here; and some more photos here.
Many thanks to JoanneInOz for hosting Mono Monday this month.
