Lives
"Such was his work - such was its close...he had renounced all chance of fame; he had given up all hope of extensive usefulness; he had daily, for firty years, sacrificed his personal peace and comfort, - had broken down his health, spent his fortune, and died at last worn out with his life's labour. And the result was failure - he knew it to be so.His labour produced little visible fruit; his teaching was scarcely heard; his example was not followed."
'Records of the Ministry of the Rev. E.T. Marsh Phillipps, M.A., fifty years Rector of Hokham in the County of Leicester' (1862) - final paragraph.
A very special treat - a two trips to the cinema week! Met my friend Dave last night and enjoyed a second viewing of 'Dark Shadows', which we treated Katie (and me!) to at the weekend, and tonight Beck and I are off to Broadway again for a burrito and a crack at 'Jeff, Who Lives At Home'. Happy days, indeed...! (Oddly enough, I recall going to see 'Sleepy Hollow' twice the week it came out, back in the days when I had less children and more spare time. 'Dark Shadows' isn't as good as that film - it's a bit more Scooby-doo, if you know what I mean - but it's certainly an enjoyable enough addition to the Tim Burton/Johnny Depp canon.)
