Mono Monday - Ancient Buildings

By European countries a 1933 building is almost considered modern, but in NZ this beautiful Rotorua Blue Baths building is considered reasonably old.

The Spanish-mission-style Blue Baths were built during the depression, and the tourist brochure from 1936 tempted visitors with a glamorous Hollywood conception of  "White tiled...sparkling blue water, submerged lighting, sun balconies...richly furnished rest room" and it drew the crowds. The water initially came from a hot sparkling thermal spring, but today it is thermally heated.
It was refurbished in the 1990's and hosts functions and shows as well as still being available for swimming.
