Mono Monday # 56 ~ Ancient Buildings.

Will 1887 do? 

After searching the internet to locate the oldest buildings in the Tweed Shire, I discovered that there are not too many old buildings at all. But I already new that. Perhaps I searched hoping that some long forgotten "oldie" had been discovered since my last search, under a mound of vines....or something....I live in hope!

Tumbulgum Tavern is quite old, compared to the majority of buildings around here. The pub has been licensed since 1887, and back in the early days of settlement along the Tweed River, was one of several pubs in the town. 

By the turn of the century (1900) the town also had three doctors, two chemists, three general stores, a butcher, blacksmith, baker, newsagent, grain and produce dealer, three churches, a school and a bank. These days, there would be somewhere in the vicinity of 400 people living in the town. How times have changed.

I'm sure I will see many very old buildings entered for this theme. I did say last week, when announcing the theme, I was being self-indulgent. I'm looking forward to a "fix" of history. :)
