Topological torment

What is the point of long plastic slinkys? Played with for a few minutes ( = swung around the room) then cast aside to form the most incredibly perplexing twists and tangles. There must be some clever manoeuvre to reverse the knots with a swift half turn in the right place rather than spending ages laboriously winding kink after kink to the end but I failed to find it. One day!
