Kayseri

The final morning was spent in an unconventional manner - snowshoeing down a canyon. This involved squeezing through narrow spaces, crawling under rocks, avoiding being stabbed by icicles and trying not to get the snowshoes jammed, all in fairly persistent snow! It was great fun.
After a substantial lunch we transferred to the city of Kayseri, over 1.1m population and clearly growing rapidly, and there was time for a short walk before it got dark.
The main square is quite pleasant but rather "bitty", however it does illustrate quite a bit about Turkey. The flag and a statue of Ataturk, the founder, an old fortress (on the site of an older one, this was a Roman city), mosaics, various architectural styles and, just off to the right, a mosque.
Later we had a guided tour of the main places but it was dark by then and it wasn't conducive to night photography.
