A thought, for Alsacienne and others with sharp minds: if an employer generously offers paid leave for those whose organised religions oblige them to attend certain ceremonies - does that discriminate against those from unorganised religions, or none ? I wonder how the First Amendment (to the US Constitution) bears on this.
Takes me back to summer afternoons long ago as an undergraduate, pondering the ethics and morals of the constitutions of the USA, the USSR (well, children, once upon a time in what is now Russia, and elsewhere ...) and the French Fifth Republic. And what we could find by way of a constitution for the UK. A Dicey business.
