Huntington History
HERITAGE RATING: We visited Huntington today, I think the churches are really beautiful examples of Medieval architecture.. the little window bottom left is part of Oliver Cromwell Museum, i chose to show the window it is so pretty, not much like Cromwell hehe!! The church top left is St Mary's which is situated close to the river Ouse, which has a Medieval bridge running over the river, six arches and parapets with recesses for pedestrians, to step into letting heavy traffic pass, such as horse and carts today pedestrians use a parallel footbridge. A wooden bridge was used as a crossing in the 10th Century, replaced by the present bridge around 1332
Huntingdon, All Saints Church. There is an identical bridge in Bidford on Avon Warwickshire.
The historic church of All Saints, Huntingdon, stands on one side of the broad Market Square, opposite the Cromwell Museum. All Saints is one of only two surviving medieval parish churches in Huntingdon (the other being St Mary's, further down High Street). Though there has been a church here for over 1000 years, the current building is almost entirely 15th century
