"Abendsitz"-view on the Weser
I don’t know from where we got the energy to go out for a walk this afternoon. Since our arrival it’s going on, day after day. And we arrived a month ago! Never we stayed here in Carlsheaven for such a long period. And still, it has been going on and on. I’m not repeating our daily to-do-list here. We have written about that. About the planned and the unexpected. And the outcome until today has been stunning. And tiring. But reality does not leave us time to lean back. Time to sleep out, spend a pyjama’s day of idleness.
So tired but happy we walked down to the Western Weser riverside. If the sun would break through it would happen over that broad river valley. And indeed, there She was blinking Her eye from under a grey black cloud. And so we took our time, just to sit on a wooden hillside bench. Looking over the sparkling water stream. Purring gently like a pair of cats on a window sill. “Abendsitz”, she whispered. The word refers to so many poetic riverside sites, benches and places we visited. One of these somewhere along the Austrian Traun-promenade in Gmünden actually wasn’t an Evening but a Morning Seat. The Romantic poet Lenau coming there to be inspired.
We love to sit down for a while in this kind of places. Some times a bench under an old high hillside tree. There will be shadow and a vista. When you travel you will find them anywhere.
“How good&healthy for us,” we laughed and sighed, “just keep moving and rest in splendid places like this. It keeps us young. High up the still clouded sky geese were doing their formation flight, honking their community song. What could you wish more on a late Saturday afternoon?
