Goldfinch at the water-trough

These are the opening lines to the poem "Snake", by DH Lawrence

"A snake came to my water-trough
On a hot, hot day, and I in pyjamas for the heat,
To drink there"

Well, it's not a hot day and it's not a snake, but I was in my pyjamas!
Why?
I am not feeling too well and this is shot through the conservatory window..
My Medical Director says that I have a cold and to snap out of it
But I am a man, and know better.
