Hungry

Mr H's other grandmother organised an extended family get together for today; at Wenderholm Reserve, half way between Snells Beach and Auckland. It is beside the mouth of the Puhoi River into the Hauraki Gulf, and there is a large area of grass and clumps of bush, as well as a long, sandy and very safe beach. Daughter J was unable to come due to another engagement. The rest of us joined with lots of other relatives for talk, swim (the boys!!), a picnic and BBQ, and then beach cricket. A couple of us expect a call up if there is any significant injury in the NZ team.

I went for a long walk along the beach, as I was told there had been lots of dotterels there earlier in the day. Didn't see any. But I did see a group of Tara (White fronted terns). While I was watching (and having noticed that there were a couple of juveniles) I heard a demanding call for food, and was able to get this photo.

Whether the juvenile was demanding food from a non parent (I saw it later approach other adults), or parent had no food, or juvenile is being encouraged forced to fend for itself.
