Layers

This morning I chose a run through Ponsonby and Herne Bay to Coxs Bay and back home through the series of parks. The sun was just rising as I arrived back. The half dozen photos gave one or two worthy of blipping.

However, following the cancellation of her appointment by the person coming last in the day, I was able to pick up Young L from kindy. We had a lovely walk from his kindy to the apartment, his small hand trustingly in my larger one. He told me that he could now stand on one leg (and stopped walking in order to demonstrate), and he could also hop on one leg; again demonstrated. His mother's son, he chattered away non stop on the walk home. Delightful.

As we approached the apartment, we saw the sun was low in the sky and he was interested enough to tell me I should take some pictures, and wanted to know what happens when the sun sets. Not sure I fully explained. Something for another day, perhaps.

This was my choice of the pictures I took as the sun passed behind the clouds and fell below the horizon. I chose it because of the multiple layers.

The upper broad band of black clouds, reprising the dark band of the city before the street lights had switched on, and few homes had their lights on either. The middle section of cloud and clear sky, above the dark swathe of the western suburbs below which the upper harbour is reflecting some of the sky colours.

These views ease the brain and the body after a day of intense concentration. I look and I think how fortunate I am to live and work in the most beautiful city in the world.
