Messing about with cables

I wanted to test the cable TV installation of our building, which requires using a type of cable called BALUN, which I had never heard of (and those people in Boulanger and Darty had never heard of it either). It turns out that I was actually provided with 2 ultra short BALUN cables, and I needed to find a way to extend them from the signal to the TV.

So, here goes:
- signal comes in via the electrical cabinet in the hall of our flat - it is a standard satellite cable
- in this cabinet, I used the first BALUN cable to convert satellite to RJ45, and plugged this in to the network interface to send the signal to the living room
- I plugged the other BALUN cable into the RJ45 port in the living room, and connected the other end to a satellite / coaxial interface
- plugged a coaxial cable from the interface into the back of the TV (I actually had to move the TV half way across the living room, because my cable was too short)
- turned on the TV and looked for digital channels - found 36, watched them for about 5 minutes and then plugged everything back in the way it was before.

Conclusion:
- It works
- I don't need it, internet TV is better
- why do I keep all these cables? I actually threw loads out when we moved out of Nantes...
