Lalibela

A priest leaves one of the rock -hewn churches in Lalibela. "Rock-hewn" doesn't really describe the immense feat of engineering and man power that went into building these churches in the 11th century. Several of the churches are stand-alone monoliths, dug up to 15 metres down into the rock and the hollowed out to give solemn, columned and often barrel vaulted interiors. Awesome.
