U-Bahn München: 58/100 Michaelibad

Munich underground: 58/100 Michaelibad

Michaelibad underground station was opened in 1980 together with 17 other underground station, like Hohenzollernplatz, Josephsplatz, and Karl-Preis-Platz. This was the biggest extension in a single year until today. Not surprisingly the planners of the underground network were looking for quantity rather than quality at that point. So Michaelibad station looks boringly similar to its twins, only the walls are a little greener than average.

The station is named after the outdoor swimming pool above ground. Until 1999, prior to the eastern extension of the U2 line to Josephsburg, Messestadt West, and Messestadt Ost, Michaelibad station was an important interchange to the bus network of eastern Munich (then the only public transport in the area).

I furthermore introduce a new level of lens flare to my photos: almost unbearable. And the "almost" is only added, because the photgraphed station is much too dull to go there again.
