Shining red from great deserts of rust and glowing with sunlight reflected across the inner solar system from clouds of sulphur dioxide, it's a close planetary conjunction of Earth's nearest neighbours astronomically and mythologically-speaking with Mars and Venus together, low in the western twilight sky.
