The Little Theatre cinema. Went to see 'Whiplash' tonight. The acting has come in for some critical plaudits, but for me it has to be in service of a great script. The story in this case is (a) fairly conventional for a Hollywood 'journey' film and therefore (b) absolutely preposterous. With all the press earlier this year about the F rating, this might be the most female unfriendly film I've seen for a while - the main female character is on screen for about five minutes only to be dumped by the protagonist in pursuit of his art. For me the attraction was the way it was filmed and edited - very compelling from that point of view.
