American Cut Glass
I am photographing the American Cut Glass collection. (For documentation - not publication.) American is usually distinguished from Irish by the sheer weight of the blanks, depth of the cut and complexity of design. Sharp and heavy. Will carpaccio an entire forearm given the slightest provocation. The help hated it because it is hard to handle and easily chipped and/or smashed to teensy crystal shards. Plus now it is Costly. The pieces in this collection are no longer used for their intended purposes as ice cream trays, pickle boats (who knew pickles liked sailing?) or spoon caddies. PS - I wouldn't own a piece if you paid me, but the workmanship and patience that went onto it is admirable. This is the center medallion of a Hawkes strawberry bowl.
