Widgeons.
Apparently. I couldn't tell. I was too busy trying to blip the little blighters.
Today was a really odd day. I was up at 5am to make it to the train for my next trip South. When you wake up that early and have to get up and out your day takes on an edge to it which doesn't leave you all day.
I met up with Mike, our host for the next two days and Shelley who I hadn't seen for a week since our previous trip to Wales. This trip was based round Northumberland. A truely magnificent place which I loved. Will definitely be going back there again. So many stately houses in the one place with magnificent views as well. Not only that but the sun shone while I was there meaning that I had a struggle choosing blips for this one.
By the time I took this blip I was begining to flag. We were on a restored sand quarry (basically a big bowl shaped hole in the ground) where they had dug ponds and built a bird hide and created some spectacular habitat features. There were huge flocks of Peewits, Teal and Widgeons and an assortments of ducks and mallards roosting on the ponds. As we walked up to them they took off from the ponds all at once. It started to get very surreal with the sun going down lighting up the clouds and hundreds of birds swooping around us, all screeching at each other. Its just quite amazing what you can do with a large hole in the ground when you put your mind to it.
