Diary of an Edinburgher

Lunch in town

JR took Archie out for his first lesson after his 'masterclass' yesterday. He did very well. Though he didn't meet another dog while on the lead - which is the big test. He's walking to heel, obeying the 'Look at me!' command, and the 'Leave it!' command. Such an improvement.

We popped into town for lunch to a place we haven't been to, but keep reading about it in WannabeAmateur's journal. You wouldn't know it was there - down a wee close off the Royal Mile.

What a fabulous space! When we went in, they had quiet, laid back (inoffensive) muzak -possibly Norah Jones - and that was most welcome. But as time went on, it got louder and screechier with twanging guitars, and so completely spoiled the ambience. So of course, I had to share my opinion with the charming waiter, who agreed that laid back jazz would be better. Of course, the quiet hum of chattering customers is the best ambience...

We ordered a couple of Louis X111 brandies. Then changed our minds - they were £220 each!!! I think the waiter knew we were kidding...

Back home and I took Archie out for a dander round the block. I haven't been out with him for so long! JR has been doing a good job - he walks on the lead really nicely now. But you just have to be ready to distract him from the many hazards - kids, men with big hats on, parking attendants in hi-viz jackets, noisy people, rubbish, dogs...

JR popped to Argos to pick up a baby gate for the back door. We sometimes need to have the door open, but not let Archie out. He might as well get used to it before the summer.

I couldn't be bothered continuing with painting the windows. Tomorrow I will get in the mood and paint all day - I have been told that the bathroom windows need doing too. And all the outsides, of course...

PS Although Argos texted to say the ordered gate had arrived, when JR got there, it had not. Grrrrr.
