Glenorchy

The drive out to Glenorchy from Queenstown brings so many reminders of Scotland. Lake Wakatipu does that 'very deep water' thing that Loch Ness does with strange rippling on the surface. As you drive down the road there are lots of reminders of the A82 through Glencoe. There are lots of glimpses of snowcapped peaks but when you come over the crest and get the full view it takes your breath away. It's hard to take a photo that does it justice. You'll do better to look at Peter Jackson's work in 'The Hobbit' or 'Lord of the Rings'.

This morning we took the gondola up to Bob's Peak. There's a great cafe/restaurant up there where you can watch people hurtling down the luge, bungy jumping and tandem paragliding. After all that excitement we headed back down to town. I got two important jobs done. I got my hair cut (it's such a long time since we left home) and I found an optician to straighten out my glasses which have been a bit crooked since I sat on them a week or so ago (the barber was from Edinburgh and the optician from northern England).

After lunch we took the drive to Glenorchy with various stops along the way. You can see more pics here. The sun's just gone down here and it's another beautifully coloured sky, perhaps even more colourful than yesterday's.

Have a good day and thanks again for all your comments, stars and hearts

David
