J Smith of Derby

The new 8 day longcase clock is in place and working well.  It dates from Circa 1845 by John Smith of Derby.  It is slightly unusual with a round dial,  which is the style of other clocks of this period and area.  

Matthew has always wanted a longcase clock but never found the right one, some are too huge for our small house and other are just plain ugly. This one is quite pretty and is made by one of the forebears of the company that Matthew now works for.   The only thing I don't like about are the swan neck pediments at the top, but the case is in lovely condition and a lovely rich colour.
