Kingfisher at Barons Haugh
On our way up to visit MaggieD's Mum this morning we detoured into Motherwell to visit the Barons Haugh nature reserve. As we walked down to the hide, four roe deer crossed out path looking startled. Into the hide and there were quite a few Teal paddling about in the shallows, plenty gulls out in deeper water and loads of assorted tits in the wood behind us. Then suddenly the other bloke in the hide said, "there it is, on the fence up there!" And sure enough this Kingfisher was perched up and catching the low morning sunlight . It sat for quite a while before putting on quite a dazzling display as it zipped up and down in front of the hide before vanishing into the trees. The other bloke got a wonderful shot but then his camera had a lens like a piece of drainpipe. This is the best my poor wee point & shoot could come up with.
Even so, I am so pleased to have seen a real live Kingfisher at last!
