Gates of mystery

Although these gates look rural they are almost opposite the railway station.
In the ten years I've lived here, I only ever seen them open once. Today a little old man was talking to some council workmen who were doing something on the pavement. He was still behind the padlocked gate though. I always want to go in because the gates have that air of mystery.
