Not Porty People or Places

We extended our stay in Gloucestershire by one day so we could have a few more amusing moments with Fyfe and Torran this morning!

This view is not one that Cheltenham Tourist Board would use to promote their Regency Gem as the capital of the Cotswolds.  It is taken from the  restaurant in the Holiday Inn Express which is very convenient for the town centre and also for our old haunts, as students here, in the 1970's.

This hotel  site used to be the HQ of Whitbread Brewery whose ale was brewed across the street in what is now an eponymous entertainment, retail and eating venue.

Our journey home to Edinburgh was a smooth and relatively fast one returning by the east coast route and arriving in daylight.

We stopped only once south of Leeds and witnessed a Police operation to control and escort  a tiny travelling support of Millwall fans to their match. A Police van proceeded the double decker coach and six motor police motor cyclists rode in defensive formations at every intersection until they left the motorway.  I thought the days of this sort of football supporting has been left behind in the last century.

Only 200 away fans made the trip to Elland Road because of the restrictions put on their movements. The measures, which include all travelling supporters reporting to a motorway service station to pick up their tickets, were put in place several years ago because of a series of violent clashes.        The Daily Telegraph.
