The Wren

Breakfast time?

The girls are sleeping really well and are very chirpy in the morning. Here they are nicely rested and with full tummies watching their Mummy and Granny as they have their breakfast.

We had a very long and mixed day. We had to cross to the other side of Vegas for the monthly -appointment with the paediatrician and they both had excellent reports. L, on the right here just to confuse things, now weighs 13lb 13oz and her older sister R is 12lbs 3oz. Then we had to wait for a couple of hours for a special injection which is given to preemies to help them in their first 6 months - the first one had been given while I was here last time. The needle is huge, about two inches long, and the injection painful so you can imagine the twins' reaction! Then on top of that the doctor had decided to have full blood counts from both girls as L had been borderline anaemic previously. Blood is taken from a heel prick - which sounds very straightforward but it wasn't. Whether it was to do with their Scottish blood or not neither girl was willing to part with more than a few drops which the nurses tried to collect ineffectively in small test tubes while the babies screamed the place down. The first two collections had taken so long they clotted, so the procedure had to be repeated! Suffice to say that they didn't get enough from R and only maybe enough from L before everyone decided to call it a day. Cue traumatised Mum and Granny dressing two distraught babies and leaving the clinic in a daze! We had been away from home for 6 hours but both girls slept soundly on the way home and gave us smiles at bath time. Let's hope mum and granny can bounce back too!
