Yasheen

Here he is! Out of his rest-bed and hobbling about with a nearly-mended broken ankle. Yasheen is our Cairo street-kid friend who we first met four years ago when he was just 10 years old. Now his voice is on the cusp of breaking. He attends school in the morning and sells flowers in the street in the afternoon, bringing bunches from his cousin's street stall and dodging between cars in busy 26th July Street . . hence the broken ankle when a car hit him. He's a sweet kid who thanked us profusely for the books we sent to him when he couldn't get out and around the block. Our plans to start him on private English classes will likely come to fruition in April. The teacher has agreed to include Yasheen's younger brother in the class. It spreads the benefit and also makes the class less daunting for the student than a one-to-one. They can practice between classes, too.

After brunch beside the Nile, we are now due for a late afternoon party which I'm led to believe will involve charades. Oh, well . . .
