Inosculating trees

You occasionally see trees of the same species that have grown so closely together that they become conjoined; these are known as 'marriage trees' or 'husband and wife trees'. It is quite unusual to see ash and oak trees grow so closely together, like this example near Staveley. The local farmer referred to it as the 'inosculating tree', from the Latin for 'kissing tree'. Perhaps I should have saved this blip for tomorrow, for Valentine's Day?
