SPA FIRE

The picture title is The Burning Of The Spa Saloon, 1876.

It shows a fire that destroyed the Sir Joseph Paxton Music Hall, in The Spa Complex in Scarborough, UK within three hours.
The new Scarborough Spa was completed in 1880 and it can be seen in the background on this foggy morning.

This wonderful artwork, celebrated by the poster board in the front of this image,  was painted by John Atkinson Grimshaw– 1836-1893 –who  became a local, and famous, landscape painter, specialising  in moonlit scenes. He and his wife had 15 children – it must have been that seaside air !

This may not be visible, but viewing in large, figures can be seen viewing the fire from the cliff walk. Amongst them are Grimshaw’s wife and two of his children. An early kind of Blip !

Thank you all again for your support this week.
Hope you all have a grand weekend !
