The Blip is an MG Midget. The 1500 model which came out about 1974, I reckon.

My first car was a Midget, but the older model - the Mark III. Navy blue, not like the one in the Blip. Mine had chrome bumpers. I think the plastic ones were introduced to meet the regulations in the USA.

I had a Midget when I lived in Long Island as well. Also a Mark III. Also navy blue. It was troublesome. They'd changed the engine in some way for the US model, and it caused no end of faults.

It was very difficult to find anywhere to get it fixed or serviced, even somewhere fairly cosmopolitan like Long Island.     

Anyway, its always nice to see one after all these years - in the supermarket car park this afternoon.
