Life Saving

So many gadgets we can save our lives on
these days. So many ways we have
to record and preserve our memories.

But my mum, I’d say, gets more satisfaction
from looking at and holding the actual photographs
we take on our visits to the Home

than from the stuff we stare at on a screen.
On screen the tiny ones, from an age ago,
can be looked at large, so that’s an advantage,

but handling the photos, passing them
from one to another, discussing them, dropping
them, retrieving them, seems to suit my mother.
