Heron flight

Tomorrow is my mother-in-law's 95th birthday. S and I came up to the beach house this afternoon to prepare for tomorrow's gathering of relatives. After arriving here I went down to the beach to find what birds I could see. Masked lapwings, oystercatchers, ducks, kuaka, herons, and (for the first time definitively) white fronted terns (tara). 

Of all the photos I took, S thought this was the best. I couldn't disagree, and so after some careful and minimal cropping, here it is.
