National Monument

For the Basque Sheepherders who were the first settlers in the area in 1870. They shared the area with Paiute and Shoshone Indians as well as coyotes and many other wild animals that would have loved to eat their lambs. Later they got some more European company in the people who were searching for gold and silver.
engraved on a big slab of sandstone are all the names of the Basques. Impressive. My first dentist here in Reno was called 'Calestaugi and that name was 5 times on the slab.

Thank you for visiting and sending me stars and hearts. I write rarely at the moment but I love to see who gave me stars and hearts :-) (I think that the fact that I can see the donors of stars and hearts for a certain entry in an easy to approach list is one of the good new features of this site)
And I love to pass by your journals and to sprinkle some glitter myself. old addictions don't die easily.
