Thanks to everyone who pointed out that only way to go from the baddest day was up, and particular thanks to TerryBob for offering kind, thoughtful and sensitive words of advice - here. You'd make a great counsellor - in an incontinence clinic.

So today I took myself off to that familiar source of solace - the hairdresser. Not this one - mine is much less flashy and photogenic. More of a backstreet parlour. But for once I'm not displeased with the result.
