To Martinez Lake and Back

A sunny winter
day offers wildlife to keep
the photogs happy

~ carliewired

We were off to Martinez Lake after brunch at IHOP this morning. The Wildlife Refuge has a great visitors centre and viewing platform to the Colorado River. As a protected area one can hope to see wildlife and we did. My walk to the viewing platform scared up a little flock of Gambel's quail, far too speedy for my photo abilities. Hummingbirds are common near the visitors centre as feeders are out to reel them in. The resident desert tortoise, Digger, made an appearance at the opening to his den. Wild burros showed up at the roadside as we were leaving the area. The road sign warning drivers of a tank crossing beside the Yuma Proving Grounds did not, however, yield any tanks!
