View over Funchal Harbour

This morning we walked up to the old fortress, Fortaliza do Pico, which we'd never done before. Not a lot to see there, but it's a great spot for gaining spectacular views of the town below, the harbour and, in the distance, the uninhabited islands that form a nature reserve.

Have swum in the hotel pool for the first time since my sciatica eased off. No pain at all, but I did get pins and needles in my right foot afterwards. That was a precursor of last summer's sciatica, so shan't overdo it.

This evening, we're dining in the hotel as they're putting on a special menu of traditional Madeiran fare. We've been warned to arrive hungry as there are several courses. 

Feeling totally spoilt and relaxed. Might even have a slight suntan beginning ... (!)
