Clothed with Love
"You have stolen my heart, my sister, my bride." Words from Song of Solomon spoken by my beloved on our wedding day. After twenty years, I am still clothed in love, adorned with the beauty bestowed on me by the devotion of my husband and best friend. I'm a backyard bird-watcher, so like the cardinal, my husband is the brilliant one, the flash of red, "radiant and ruddy, outstanding among ten thousand." (Song 5:10)
He is an example of unconditional love and beauty that our God lavishes on us like a lover: "For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels...As a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so will your God rejoice over you." (Isaiah 61:10;62:5)
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" is just another way of saying that great love makes us feel beautiful and we are truly beautiful when we greatly love. My life is rich with the joy of the Lord and clothed with the love of my husband. Beauty is love and grace undeserved and freely given.
