Fred & Andy

Little cutie

We were told by Mr Sai that we must be up for breakfast at 7am as we have a long walk and need to leave by 7.30am.  We’re all up, some having slept better than others, but there is no sign of him.  We are realising that time keeping is not his strong point.  Youri, Nicholas and Johnnie say they were freezing last night so didn’t sleep well … we soon discover that they thought their blankets were part of their mattress … boys!

After breakfast we continue on our trek.  This cheeky little chap was on a climbing frame in one of the schools we pass.  Lots of the women and kids in Myanmar wear Thanaka paste on their face to protect them from the sun.  Its also supposed to have antiseptic properties, prevent spots and be good for the complexion.

Mr Sai marinated his wild boar overnight and hung it over the fire so it has been smoked a little.  We try it and its lovely.  He is now carrying it on the back of his pack hoping to sun dry it a bit.  He is very excited about it and his eyes light up whenever he talks about it which is great.

Its hot again and the trek starts to become hard work,  Mr Sai is walking quickly with few rests, probably due to the late start.  The scenery isn’t as pretty as it was and we are all tired and aching by the time we reach the trishaw for the ride back to Hsipaw.  We arrive back around 3pm and Johnnie and Nicholas are getting a night bus at 5.30pm so we have a few beers and say goodbye.  Mr Sai turns up again with some local snacks which is really nice of him.

Its been a great couple of days but we’re tired tonight so after dinner with some of the guys we head to bed hoping for a good nights sleep.
